The following clarifications govern the interpretation of our product specifications, performance guarantees, and warranty terms for subsea valve sealing components.

  1. What constitutes “zero-leakage” under the warranty?

    Zero-leakage is defined as no visible leakage during hydrostatic test at 1.5× rated pressure and no measurable gas leakage (≤ 1×10⁻⁶ mbar·L/s) during helium mass-spectrometer testing at rated pressure. This applies only when the seal is installed per our published torque and surface-finish requirements and operated within the specified temperature and pressure envelope. Any deviation from the installation procedure voids this guarantee.

  2. Are the tungsten carbide face rings interchangeable between seal families?

    No. Grade K68 rings are dimensionally matched to the Series 900 cartridge carrier and the Series 700 split-seal adapter. Using a K68 ring from one series in another requires a custom adapter sleeve and re-certification. We supply rings as matched sets with a unique serial number; mixing rings from different sets is not permitted and will void the face-flatness warranty.

  3. What is the shelf life of chevron packing sets?

    Vacuum-sealed Viton/PTFE chevron sets have a shelf life of 36 months from the date of manufacture when stored in original packaging at 10–30 °C, away from direct UV and ozone sources. After opening, the set must be installed within 72 hours. Sets stored beyond 36 months must be re-certified by our lab before use; re-certification includes a compression-set test and visual inspection for surface cracking.

  4. Does the dynamic cartridge seal require a separate barrier fluid system?

    No. The Series 900 is a self-contained, dry-running design for intermittent duty (≤ 10,000 cycles). For continuous high-speed actuation (> 10 cycles per hour) or when the process fluid contains abrasive particles > 50 µm, we recommend an external barrier fluid system with a clean, compatible lubricant. Our standard warranty excludes seal face damage caused by abrasive ingress when a barrier system was specified but not installed.

  5. How are sour gas (NACE) compliance claims verified?

    Compliance with NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 is verified by material certification (mill test reports for duplex stainless steel and Hastelloy components) and by a third-party witness during the hydrogen-induced cracking (HIC) and sulfide stress cracking (SSC) tests. We provide a compliance dossier with each order. The customer must confirm the exact H₂S partial pressure, chloride concentration, and pH range of the service environment at the time of ordering; any change in service conditions requires a re-evaluation.

What hydrostatic pressure can the Series 900 cartridge seal handle? The Series 900 dynamic cartridge mechanical seal is rated for continuous operation at hydrostatic pressures up to 15,000 psi. Each unit is hydrostatically and gas-tight certified before shipment, with documented zero-leakage performance for subsea manifolds and Christmas trees.
How does the Grade K68 tungsten carbide face ring resist abrasion? Grade K68 is 94% tungsten carbide with a 6% cobalt binder, diamond-ground to a surface finish of 0.1 µm Ra or better. This delivers a hardness of HRA 91 and high fracture toughness, making it suitable for sand-laden production fluids and sour gas environments.
What temperature range does the chevron packing set cover? The High-Temp Viton/PTFE chevron packing set is rated for continuous service from -20°F to 350°F, with short excursions up to 400°F. The five-lip design provides progressive sealing force as pressure increases, while PTFE layers reduce stem wear.
Are the face rings available in custom sizes? Yes. Grade K68 tungsten carbide face rings are available in standard and custom OD/ID configurations to retrofit existing seal carriers. Each ring is laser-marked with a traceable serial number and supplied with a dimensional inspection report.
What materials are used in the Series 900 seal body? The seal body is constructed from duplex stainless steel with a Hastelloy spring pack. This combination ensures corrosion resistance in H2S and chloride-rich environments, meeting the demands of sour gas subsea valve applications.
How is the chevron packing set delivered? Each chevron packing set is pre-assembled on a mandrel and vacuum-sealed to prevent contamination. The set includes alternating Viton and PTFE lips with a carbon-filled PTFE anti-extrusion ring at the base, ready for installation in API 6A rising stem gate valves and subsea actuator stem seals.
